Palette knife spreading a thick glaze finish on a wall

Glazing and faux painting

Some walls need a glaze, not just another roll

Sponging, color washing, and glaze coats sit on top of a sound base. In Hanover dining rooms and Norwich entries, we sample colors in the actual light so the undertone and the sheen match the room.

The finishes we build

Sponge work, ragging, color wash, and transparent glaze over a base coat. These are hand finishes. The sample board in a Lyme hallway is not the same as a north wall in Norwich at four in the afternoon, so we brush out large samples on site.

When it makes sense

Dining rooms, entries, powder rooms, and feature walls that should feel layered. We also use glaze to soften a color that reads too hard in a single coat. If a room only needs a clean field of paint, we say so.

Where we do this work

We glaze, sponge, and build decorative wall finishes in Orford, Hanover, Lebanon, Norwich, Woodstock, and homes across Vermont and New Hampshire.

Can you match an existing faux finish in my home?

Yes. We can analyze the layers, colors, and techniques used in your current finish and create custom sample boards to ensure a seamless match before we touch the walls.

How do I know what the finish will look like in my room?

We never guess. We brush out large sample boards on-site so you can see exactly how the glaze or color wash interacts with your room's specific lighting throughout the day.
